Africa’s economy is growing steadily

20150530-inc403.png Africa’s economy is growing steadily. Last year average growth was 3.9% and it is set to accelerate this year, according to a report by the African Development Bank. Foreign direct investment (FDI) is helping to spur growth. It is expected to reach $55 billion in 2015, 20% higher than in 2010. Inflows of capital are increasingly focused on less resource-rich countries, as investors target the continent’s booming middle classes. The amount of investment into technology, retail and business services increased by 17 percentage points between 2007 and 2013. Foreign investment is also becoming more of a two-way affair. Last year Africa’s outward investment hit $11.4 billion, up by nearly two-fifths since 2011-12

Porn-site extortionist imprisoned

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Accused porn-site mastermind Ronald Oates has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment. Oates was sentenced this week in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court following an earlier guilty plea. The 30-year-old Oates allegedly posted nude photographs of women on the Internet and is accused of extorting more than $100,000 from victims to remove the offending pictures.

Things you should each and everyday

1. Get an early start. If your mornings are chaotic, the simple solution is to get up a little earlier than the chaos. This, of course, starts the night before by going to bed a bit earlier too. Adjust gradually, wake up just 10 minutes earlier each week for the next 6-9 weeks, and you’ll barely notice the change from day to day. This extra time will help you avoid stress, speeding tickets, tardiness and other unnecessary headaches. 2. Meditate on the goodness. Begin each day with love, grace and gratitude. When you arise in the morning think of what an incredible privilege it is to be alive – to be, to see, to hear, to think, to love, to have something to look forward to. Happiness is a big part of these little parts of your life; joy is simply the feeling of appreciating it all. Realize that it’s not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us happy. Make a habit of noticing the goodness that’s already yours first thing in the morning, and you will see more goodn

INAUGURAL SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI FOLLOWING HIS SWEARING-IN AS PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON 29TH MAY 2015

I am immensely grateful to God Who Has preserved us to witness this day and this occasion. Today marks a triumph for Nigeria and an occasion to celebrate her freedom and cherish her democracy. Nigerians have shown their commitment to democracy and are determined to entrench its culture. Our journey has not been easy but thanks to the determination of our people and strong support from friends abroad we have today a truly democratically elected government in place. I would like to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for his display of statesmanship in setting a precedent for us that has now made our people proud to be Nigerians wherever they are. With the support and cooperation he has given to the transition process, he has made it possible for us to show the world that despite the perceived tension in the land we can be a united people capable of doing what is right for our nation. Together we co-operated to surprise the world that had come to expect only the worst from Nigeria. I hope

What Greek Warfare Can Teach Us About Business Management

Remember your Greek mythology? Paul Woodruff, professor of classics and philosophy at The University of Texas at Austin, certainly hopes so — especially if you’re a manager, because you’ve got a dilemma as old as recorded history. Businesses hire two types of employees, says Woodruff: An Ajax and an Odysseus. Ajax is strong, capable, and gets the work done. Odysseus is creative, dynamic, and has a reputation for bright ideas. (Be warned: loyalty is not in his vocabulary.) Ajax might be easy to replace, says Woodruff, but Odysseus is not, and yet both types of employees are necessary. The dilemma is this: How do you keep hard-working Ajax content and on board while making sure superstar Odysseus is adequately rewarded so he isn’t lured away by the next headhunter? Woodruff helped unravel that management knot at a sold-out Texas Enterprise Speaker Series event on February 19, 2015. “I chose these names because they are the names of archetypes in a very ancient myth of a competition betwe

Make your life easier and more peaceful

Here are four messages that spirit guides want you to know to help make your life easier and more peaceful: 1. You are enough as is. Many of us are focused on constantly striving to be better. We want to be better people, parents, or spouses. We want to be richer and stronger, wiser and more beautiful. Striving for improvement is great, but your spirit guides want you to know that who you are right now is enough. As you are continuing to grow, develop and explore life, remember to take a breath and appreciate who you are now. You are a beautiful divine soul, doing the best you can in your life. That is enough. 2. Everything is helping you in some way. Every person and event in your life is helping you in some way, whether you realize it or not. From the workers who build the streets you drive on, to the annoying woman at work who is making it easier for you to quit and start your own business ... everything is helping you in some way. When encountering a difficult situation or person,

Love is in the eye of the beholder

For those of us who have not yet experienced that one deep love that all humans wish for, know that in this world there will be many opportunities to meet that right person. We have all lost in the name of Love, by that a relationship that did not turn out the way we wished it to, for what ever reason, yet what ever has gone was not meant to be and if it is, it will fly straight back to you like a boomerang, if you let it go with ease. If it does not come back to you, have that faith within you that there will be a bright future ahead of you, allow your self that time to heal and get over whatever situation you have just come away from. Keep hope in your heart for a better future and try not to allow the past to distract you, while you focus on that you will loose the gift of the present which is the here and now. It matters not how we perceive our external selves to be, as that well known saying goes ” Love is in the eye of the beholder”, your personality will be enough to get you whe

“Haters will broadcast your Failure, but whisper your Successes.”

Haters will only stay around haters and they all have a similar mission for keeping barriers on the roads of success for winners or capable people who can do it. They will do hell number of things to let those all down by passing negativity because they think it’s not at all possible for me. To be honest, winners are busy every day in competing themselves to give them self-confidence and go to the next level. Winners are fearless for any kind of battle and they already know that they will make it possible someday. When these haters see that you have a new circle of positive people that you are surrounding yourself with, and they are no longer apart of that. They get mad. Step up to the plate, get your life in order and become a Hero. NOT a CHAMPION.

The art of making life easier

Imagine you had a ripe, juicy apple sitting on an otherwise empty table in front of you. You pick it up eagerly, take a nibble, and begin to taste it. You already know how an apple should taste, and so when this one is a bit more tart than you expected, you make a face, feel a sense of disappointment and swallow it, dissatisfied. Or perhaps the apple tastes EXACTLY as you expected – nothing special at all. So you swallow without even pausing to enjoy its flavor, and you move on with your day. In the first scenario, the apple was disappointing because it didn’t meet your expectations. In the second, it was too plain and unexciting because it met your expectations to a T. Do you see the irony here? It’s either not good, or not good enough. Now imagine you try this: eliminate your expectations of how the apple ‘should’ taste. You don’t know, and you don’t pretend to know, because you haven’t tried it yet. Instead, you’re genuinely curious, impartial and open to a variety of flavors. You t

Nairobi Governor Not to be blamed on floods

Evans Kidero yes is the governor of Nairobi but honestly shifting the blame of floods to him is myopic & utter nonsense. To start with County governments are two years old. They have overseen little infrastructure projects in the country. Secondly, the main problem here is clogged drainage system. A problem from our own culture of dumping anywhere. Some rubbish is 20 years old. Moi error litter. Thirdly I don't think we are mistaking kidero for a God or his son Jesus. Flooding is a natural calamity or whom will we blame when droughts come? Most importantly - corruption & greed over the years have drained taxpayers money. Not kidero. Lets start by saving this water or come drought you will blame kidero for mot urinating in your rivers. Over & out! Evans Kidero Good morning Nairobi, first and foremost my sincere condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones as a result of the current heavy rains. On behalf of the County Government I would like to express my s

Great Rules for easy living

If you open it, close it. If you turn it on, turn it off. If you unlock it, lock it up. If you break it, admit it. If you can’t fix it, call in someone who can. If you borrow it, return it. If you value it, take care of it. If you make a mess, clean it up. If you move it, put it back. If it belongs to someone else and you want to use, get permission. If you don’t know how to operate it, leave it alone. If it’s none of your business, don’t ask questions. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If it will brighten someone’s day, say it. If it will tarnish someone’s reputation, keep it to yourself.

Is IQ Important In achieving success

When it comes to what determines success, many would put their money a high intelligence quotient. There’s no doubt IQ plays a role in academic achievement, but acceptance into an Ivy League school far from guarantees success in life. CEOs who’ve recruited the brightest graduates become puzzled at the bell curve of performance—after all, shouldn’t all geniuses perform at an elite level? Not surprisingly, researchers have found that IQ plays a far less significant role in success. It’s these three qualities, under the radar and often overlooked, that make all the difference when it comes to success. 1. Self Regulation The ability to manage your behaviors consistent with your values and goals. We’re often the biggest stumbling blocks to our own success. The famous Stanford “Marshmallow” study placed treats in front of children and told them they could eat it now, or wait and be rewarded with a double amount. Tracing the lives of the children into adulthood, they found those who resisted
