FRIENDS OF DIKEMBE DISEMBE: The White Handkerchief Movement for the Release of Dikembe Disembe

Fellow patriots, We are living in a country where freedom of speech and democracy is foreign to the current ruling club. It has become a ritual for the current regime to blatantly and overtly, without shame, to flout the constitution. A common practice has been the silencing of voices of reason. We all recall how the president excitedly waited to sign the medial bill into law; which as eerie as it appear, he did. After effectively gagging the media and boxing them into surrender, the jubilee administration turned their ugly head on bloggers. They know very well that it is the only platform where people can express themselves liberally without first seeking consent from state house on what to say. Strange as it is, anything you say that jubilee doesn’t like will be treated as hate speech particularly, if you aren’t a sycophantic follower of their peculiar ideologies. They seduced us to stop what they call ‘attacking them’ but failed. They then resorted to coercion and intimidation. They

JUBILEE COALITION SCHEMES TO CONTROL ELECTORAL OVERSIGHT BODIES AHEAD OF 2017 CAUSING GRAVE CONCERN

Apart from the police service that is charged with the duty of ensuring a peaceful environmental and orderly conduct during the elections, there are only two constitutional and presumably Independent bodies that play a critical role during the elections. These are the IEBC which is mandated to organize and superintend the polls and declare the results thereof and the Judiciary which through the courts, is tasked with the duty of adjudicating over electoral disputes. Both bodies are expected to be independent while discharging their respective duties and are therefore obliged to be manned and guided by people with high moral integrity, beyond reproach and unquestionable professional competence. This is imperative not only for purposes of engendering public trust but also for ensuring impartiality, accountability and transparency in the work of the electoral body. However, judging from the unfolding experiences under the Jubilee Government, it appears that the ruling Executive is now int

Russia calls for immediate ceasefire in Gaza under Egypt's initiative — Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, July 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia's Foreign Ministry has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza under Egypt's initiative. "The events in Gaza arouse growing concern. We condemn the death of innocent people, primarily children, during the attack on the UN school in Beit-Hanoun," the ministry said on Friday. Humanitarian truce should be announced in Gaza during the Muslim feast of the Eid al-Fitr, which signals the end of the holy month of Ramadan, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Friday. The week-long Eid al-Fitr starts on Monday, July 28. Israel does not seek control over Gaza Israel does not intend to take over Gazaupon completion of Operation Protective Edge, Israeli deputy ambassador to Russia Olga Slov said on Friday. “Israel left Gaza not to return there,” she said. The purpose of Operation Protective Edge “is to take measures for destroying the Hamas terrorism infrastructure in Gaza”, Slov said. In addition, she said, “Gaza’s demilitarization will

Odongo was released on a Ksh 5 million bond or Ksh 2 million cash bail.

In About 15 Years Of Media : 15 Things You Need To Know About Julie Gichuru

News Anchor / Tv hostJulie Gichuru is one of the most renown tv personalities in Kenya. For a fact little is known about her, as the only thing people see is her beautiful face when she graces the tv screens for Sunday Live news cast on Citizen Tv. In about 15 years now in media its important for us to look at 15 things you need to know about Julie Gichuru. 1. If given a chance to ask God only one question, what will it be? That’s a tough one. I am very spiritual. As a follower of Christ I connect very closely with my Lord and Savior. Honestly, I ask him numerous questions every day and seek his guidance through prayer and the living word. I don’t think I could single out one question that would be more important than all the others… Perhaps it would simple be a request for His grace for our family, all the days of our lives. 2. Share your journey and struggles as a news anchor. It’s been close to 15 years now in media and its been an exciting journey. There have been challenges but I

HATE SPEECH CHARGES AGAINST BLOGGER DIKEMBE SHOULD BE DROPPED

RE:STATEMENT ON HARASSMENT AND VICTIMIZATION OF PERCEIVED ANTI-GOVERNMENT BLOGGERS Ladies and gentlemen, Our concern has been raised by the constant terrorization of bloggers deemed to be antagonistic to the present regime. While we are heedful of the law on hate speech; we are deeply concerned at the style in which the same is applied selectively. Lately, we have witnessed an upsurge in this partial appliance of the law largely targeting those perceived to be anti- government. This trend is alarming and is clearly intended to silence and bully us into acquiescence. The latest stab to deny Kenyans their freedom of speech and expression involve summon to appear before Milimani law court on 25th July, 2014 issued to Dikembe Disembe to face charges related to hate speech. We want to state categorically that the charges leveled against him are frivolous, outlandish and uncorroborated. He is innocent of all the accusations and we have no iota of doubt that he will be exonerated. We call upo

Never Give Up.Machokos Governor Alfred Mutua Confesses , “My First Job Was in ‘Koroga’”

We all know him as the first governor for Machakos County and all the marvelous things he has done for his county. But did you know that this illustrious man started from a humble beginning?Did you also know that his first job was at mjengo (koroga) where he worked building a stone fence? Meet Dr. Alfred Nganga Mutua born on 22nd August 1970 in Masii, Makueni District. He started school at Toi primary school in Kibera, went to Dagoretti High School for his O-levels and to Jamhuri High School for his A-levels. “Mimi ni mtu wa mtaa,”he says in an interview with Capital FM. How to get ahead in a dictatorship

MOBUTU SESE SEKO, who ruled Congo for 32 years, was notorious for his “musical chairs” approach to his cabinet. His deputies were constantly shuffled around, passing unpredictably from ministerial posts to prison and exile, before once again returning to high office. Over the course of his reign Mr Mobutu burned through hundreds of ministers. High ministerial turnover is common to many dictatorships, as a new study of 15 African countries shows. Why are dictators so fickle with their cabinets, and how can ministers avoid being sacked, or worse? In a working paper for the National Bureau of Economic Research, Patrick Francois and Francesco Trebbi of the University of British Columbia and Ilia Rainer of George Mason University modelled the autocrat’s dilemma of choosing which ministers he should hire to run his government. Experienced ministers are better able to help manage the country. But time in power also allows them to develop their own political base which, if left unchecked, cou

Why Putin Can't Afford to Dump the Ukrainian Separatists

While Russia's support of Ukrainian separatists has led to its worst standoff with the West in post-Soviet history, the Kremlin cannot afford to disown them because that would spell a major geopolitical defeat and alienate the jingoistic masses at home, Russian pundits said. The rebels are Moscow's last remaining leverage in the otherwise vehemently pro-Western Ukraine, Maria Lipman of the Carnegie Moscow Center think tank said Monday. And domestically, the Russian public has been persuaded to see the insurgents as the good guys resisting "forces of evil" — which means disowning them would destroy Putin's popularity, Lipman said. This leaves Putin without any appealing options, though he may yet whip out a surprise and come out on top, as he has been known to do, experts said. "The Kremlin has been reduced to choosing between bad and worse," said independent analyst Sergei Shelin. "But it only has itself to blame," he said. 'The Boeing Cri

Likoni gunmen distribute leaflets targeting Luos, Kill 4

(Reuters) – Gunmen killed at least four people and injured several others in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa on Sunday, police said. Witnesses said gunmen went on a shooting rampage on the edge of Kenya’s second-largest city and scattered leaflets saying the attack was retribution for last month’s raid on Mpeketoni, a town about 300 km (186 miles) north of Mombasa along Kenya’s Indian Ocean coastline. “Some suspects…shot at people indiscriminately and as a result, four people have been killed and several others injured,” said Robert Kitur, Mombasa County police commander. “They did not steal anything. They just shot.” Kitur said the police were pursuing the gunmen. Peter Musyoki, a resident in Mombasa’s Likoni area who witnessed the shooting, said two masked men toting a rifle and a pistol haphazardly shot at passersby. “I saw two men dressed in black with a red ribbon around their heads,” he said. “They walked on foot and were just shooting carelessly at anyone they saw.” The latest a

Would You Be Involved in Office Romance? Kenyans Speak Out

We’ve all heard of the Lewinsky-Clinton office romance saga and how it all went down. You may probably be eyeing that workmate opposite you. But would you consider having an office romance with him/her considering the baggage that comes with such a move? Considering the amount of time people spend at work it is little wonder if passion and excitement is found in the office. But such liaisons can be blissful or just a disaster waiting to happen. Let’s have a look at the good, the bad and the ugly of such camaraderie The good Maggie Nkatha says she would encourage such a relationship. “My marriage came from an office romance. This kind of romance is motivating in the workplace and also creates drive to work harder and better. The two of you spend more time after work and can deliberate on work issues and find solutions long after office hours,” she says. “If you can manage, go on. It’s a relationship like any other. Most importantly is to find a balance between work and romance. The bad

Ababu Namwamba’s Open LETTER to president Uhuru

By Hon Ababu Namwamba Mr President, I salute you, and do pray this finds you well. I write to you both as a patriotic citizen of our land, and as a leader duly elected to represent the people of Budalang’i in our National Assembly. Please grant me your indulgence to address you on this unfolding referendum debate. Sir, you obviously know you reign over a country faced with truly daunting challenges. Ethnic divisions and tensions, particularly, continue to poison our national relations and discourse. Kenyans seem more divided today than ever before, as frustration, disillusionment and fear push more of our people into despair. There is widespread feeling that your Government is insensitive, unjust, opaque, arrogant and exclusionist . . . largely a preserve of the elite of the two tribes at the heart of your Jubilee Alliance. Whatever your advisors and court jesters may tell you, these sentiments are real. And please do not mistake the apparent “calm” to mean people are at peace. Martin

Talent is God's work, the rest is ours

I wrote these points to prepare for a discussion I was invited to facilitate at NPC Karen on Saturday, 19th July 2014 on "talent development." I wasn't sure if I should post them until this morning when I heard the sermon at Mavuno by Pastor Carol Wanjau on bold parenting, which I will link here as soon as it's up. In this age when the buzzwords for dealing with youth unemployment are “developing talent,” the Parable of the talents in Matthew 25 provides interesting lessons about what talent actually is, and what it should do. Three of those lessons are that *.just like in the parable where the talents were given by the master, talent comes from God *.to make the talent bear fruit and multiply, one needs to work. What distinguished the first two workers from the one who buried his talent was not what they received, but the work they put in *.talent is for the benefit of people other than one’s self – in this case it was for the master, and in a socially conscious soci

Reasons you are succeed ing in life

1. You are walking your own path, not anyone else’s. – One of the most foundational sources of both success and happiness is simply being comfortable with who you really are. Not trading your reality for a role or your truth for an act. Not giving up your freedom of thought. Not putting on a mask. So never let anyone’s ignorance, hate, drama or negativity stop you. If you desire to make a difference in the world, you must continue to be different from the world. Don’t be scared to walk alone on your own path, and don’t be scared to like it. 2. You are gradually working through your fears. – As you know, running from fear is a race you’ll never win. In fact, what you’re afraid of dealing with is often precisely what will set you free. So keep doing what you’ve been doing – take another step forward today. Don’t let your fear decide your future. Don’t let it shut you down. Instead, let it wake you up! Take chances and indulge in the excitement. Tell yourself that the fear of suffering is

A MUST READ LOVE STORY

There was once a guy who suffered from cancer… a cancer that can’t be treated. He was 18 years old and he could die anytime. All his life, he was stuck in his house being taken cared by his mother. He never went outside but he was sick of staying home and wanted to go out for once. So he asked his mother and she gave him permission. He walked down his block and found a lot of stores. He passed a CD store and looked through the front door for a second as he walked. He stopped and went back to look into the store. He saw a young girl about his age and he knew it was love at first sight. He opened the door and walked in, not looking at anything else but her. He walked closer and closer until he was finally at the front desk where she sat. She looked up and asked “Can I help you?” She smiled and he thought it was the most beautiful smile he has ever seen before and wanted to kiss her right there. He said “Uh… Yeah… Umm… I would like to buy a CD.” He picked one out and gave her money for it

Obama meets with single mom, 'the person we are working for'

Obama has lunch with a single mom after she writes him an email about her struggles President meets with letter writers to highlight plight of working Americans The paper was stamped“Back from the Oval,” and though the scribbled note at the bottom wasn’t signed, the loopy handwriting was clearly President Obama’s. “This is the person we are working for,” Obama wrote, directing his aides’ attention to Tanei Benjamin, a single mother in Delaware who is trying to put herself through school. After reading an email that Benjamin wrote him last summer, Obama instructed his personal assistant to distribute a printout to all his senior advisors. Obama sometimes asks his staff to look into specific problems that he learns about in letters from Americans, but he rarely shares the sheaf of personal notes he goes through every night

The Malaysia Airlines crash over Ukraine: what we know and don't know

Malaysian Airlines plane MH17, carrying 295 people, crashed over Ukraine. The Ukrainian interior ministry saysthere are no survivors. This has the potential to become a serious international crisis if the plane was shot down by either the Ukrainian government or Russia-backed separatists that are currently fighting in eastern Ukraine. In such a tense situation, it's often easy for people to lose track of what we actually know and don't know about the crash. So here's a list of what's confirmed and unconfirmed. This will be updated as the day goes on, so keep checking in here for details. What we know MH17 crashed in Ukraine with 295 on board, and Ukrainian sources say there appearto be no survivors. MH17 was traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. The plane crashed near the Russia/Ukraine border, in eastern Ukraine, per the New York Times. This is not the same Malaysia Airlines flight that disappeared on March 8th. That was MH370; this is MH17. Ukrainian officials are

Official: Malaysian plane shot down over Ukraine

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — An adviser to Ukraine's Interior Minister says a Malaysian passenger plane carrying 295 people has been shot down over a town in the east of the country. Anton Gerashenko says on his Facebook page the plane was flying at an altitude of 10,000 meters (33,000 feet) when it was hit Thursday by a missile fired from a Buk launcher. A similar launcher was seen by Associated Press journalists near the eastern Ukrainian town of Snizhne earlier Thursday.

Old-Fashioned Relationship Habits We Should Bring Back

1. Spend quality time together with no major agenda and no technology. Put down the smart phone, close the laptop and enjoy each other’s company, face to face, the old fashioned way. There are few joys in life that equal a good conversation, a genuine laugh, a long walk, a friendly dance, or a big hug shared by two people who care about each other. Sometimes the most ordinary things can be made extraordinary just by doing them with the right people. So choose to be around these people, and choose to make the most of your time together. Don’t wait to make big plans. Make your time together the plan. Communicate openly on a regular basis. Get together in the flesh as often as possible. Not because it’s convenient to do so, but because you know each other are worth the extra effort. 2. Be fully present when you’re in the presence of others. One of the best feelings in the world is knowing your presence and absence both mean something to someone. And the only way to let your loved ones kno

Today was yesterday’s tomorrow

Today will be tomorrow’s yesterday Yesterday’s today was yesterday Tomorrow’s today is tomorrow Yesterday’s day after tomorrow is tomorrow Tomorrow’s day before yesterday was yesterday The day before yesterday’s tomorrow was yesterday The day after tomorrow’s yesterday is tomorrow The day before yesterday’s day after tomorrow And the day after tomorrow’s day before yesterday Are both today The day after tomorrow’s tomorrow And the day before yesterday’s yesterday Are both too far away Todays turn into yesterdays Tomorrow never comes I think my tomorrow is today Or maybe it was yesterday Damn I’m not sure which is which, anyway So this is all I have left to say Don’t worry about the future Don’t turn your mind to the past Just live this moment while it lasts For far too soon it will also pass And don’t forget Today’s today is today Where does all the time go?

Economic sabotage is the highest form of peaceful protest

By Dikembe Disembe Economic sabotage is the highest form of peaceful protest. The more young people boycott safari com which is increasingly becoming a tool for oppression and subversion of people's choices, the better for our country. In a sense, the success of this boycott will also remind politicians both in cord and jubilee that they are entering a new age of citizen politics where organizing for political and economic causes will no longer require a permit and a venue at Uhuru Park. As for Brookside, the boycott should purely be in solidarity with small scale farmers and other players in the milk industry who are increasingly being bought off due to unfair economic policies. In democracies, the consumer is the king. In western democracies which we borrow from, consumption of goods has very close relation to political choices. Even in the US where I am currently, the case of Joseph Sterling, the 'racist' owner of a basketball club has shown that businesses can't jus

AFRICA AND THE WORLD CUP

The continent should put its house in order The final of the ongoing FIFA World Cup which began last month in Brazil with 32 countries, including Nigeria, will be held this weekend. While it has been an exciting tournament that has produced unprecedented number of goals and several new records, it is unfortunate that no African country went beyond the second round. But the greater tragedy is the fact that three of the five teams representing the continent became sources of embarrassment by their conduct on and off the pitch at the tournament. The three countries are Cameroun, Ghana and Nigeria. Once respected in global football, the national players of Cameroun put up scandalous performance in their matches at the tournament, leading to suspicions of unethical practices. Indeed, the ethics committee at Fecafoot is currently probing allegations of fraud in Cameroun's three Group A matches, particularly the 4-0 defeat by Croatia on June 18 in Manaus. In confirming that an investigati

THE LIES YOU TELL THE WORLD DESTROYS YOUR CREDIBILITY AND REPUTATION

By Ndung'u Wainaina; Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu in letter to ICC and tabled before the Court yesterday during status conference says "ministry(Lands) was in the process of reorganizing its operations and had discovered that 1.3 million files were lost, misplaced or misfiled". She said "they had not located any information on land owned by President Kenyatta". This statement made in full glare of cameras and beamed globally is serious embarrassment to the people of Kenya and their country. AG Prof Githu and Jubilee Government, the lies you tell the world completely destroy your credibility and reputation. I think as Kenyans we must take stand on this matter.

We rather divide the country with TRUTHS than ‘unite’ it with LIES

By Dikembe Disembe It has not taken four days after I made a post warning that the kikuyu anywhere should be the last person to wear that ‘we are in government’ jingoistic pride and cheer us Luos are threatened out of Naivasha. I am still waiting for reports of Kikuyus leaving Kisumu en masse…any out there? Anyway, as I observed in my earlier post (and as usual they accused me of fanning ethnic hatred) more conflicts will pit the Kikuyu against other tribes with Luos being the least. So I really don’t care. The more you think the Luo bogeyman – including me – is the problem, the more a Mr. Kang’ethe is UNCONSCIOUS in hospital with a gunshot and 20 others dead. It doesn’t matter that the the President of Lamu West constituency is a Kikuyu, the MP is a Kikuyu and the county commissioner is a Kikuyu. In fact, there are more Kikuyus in that area’s security command structure than they are in heaven. Sounds sadistic but sounds very true. I really don’t care. Peace without accountability is f

WHY KENYANS ARE MORE DIVIDED TODAY THAN EVER BEFORE

By Makau Mutua PhD Something terrible has been happening since Jubilee leaders Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto won the March 4 elections. I know – you want me to sing “love, peace and unity”. But I ain’t a parrot, or a regime apologist. That’s the other guy, not me. My job is to tell it like it is, and let the chips fall where they may. That’s why today I am leaving all of it on this page. This is the adage from which I warn thee – those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it. This is what I see – there is a “dangerously rising tide of intolerance” by those who believe they “won”. Why are they so insecure, and abusive? In 2013, Kenyans didn’t hack each down with machetes, or torch innocents in churches. No, this year – unlike 2008 – Kenyans are more “civilised”. They didn’t run to the streets to denounce the IEBC and its beleaguered chair Issack Hassan. They went to court – to the Supreme Court – to seek justice. They “accepted” the court’s decision even if they “disagreed

SABA SABA HERE WE COME

By Sospeter Otieno Saba Saba is approaching fast. And Jubilee seems to be developing cold feet. The forces of darkness and retrogression have sought the intervention from all corners. Men of the cloth like Cardinal John Njue have suspiciously been echoing the Jubilee position in asking Cord to seek dialogue through parliament. Witchcraft galore was evident when elders from Uhuru’s tribe tribe slaughtered hundreds of chicken and drunk blood from dying chickens’ necks at Uhuru Park. A nation’s people who are disgruntled with the direction that the nation is headed will on Saba Saba day gather to, in one accord, swear to stand together in defense of the values that the patriotic in this nation cherish. Of course, the meaning of patriotism in the Jubilee era has been tweaked to mean Uhuru- Mania. Taking on the ills of this government has been described as incitement and high-treason requiring one to record a statement. The CORD rallies- a constitutionally sanctioned right- have been demon
